New Pact on Migration & Asylum - Digging into what it means on the ground

On February 5th, we kicked off an interactive Proteus workshop on the New Pact on Migration & Asylum - digging into what it means on the ground. As a continuation of that conversation, we held a follow-up conference, “A Social Approach to Unpacking the New Pact on Migration & Asylum: Real Lives That Matter,” as part of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s Knowledge for Action programme.

Big thanks to our panel for sharing their insights and experiences:

  • Emina Bužinkić, PhD – Postdoc at the Institute for Development & International Relations, whose work weaves together migration, education, race and feminist practice.
  • Samer Arkawi – PhD candidate in Social Work, migration researcher and asylum seeker, exploring what true migration autonomy looks like.
  • Manar Abulkareem Abed – Advocate for intersectional justice and mum of three who migrated from Iraq, speaking out against bullying and gender-based violence in the asylum system.
  • Moderator: Samar Zughool – Director of Reka Si and PhD candidate in Community Work & Intersectional Feminism, who steered our dialogue unpacking the new pact through a social work approach.

Through this national research & outreach dialogue, Reka Si has worked to bridge rights and human security across the Mediterranean, focusing on human security and inclusive, community-led solutions. We’ll be sharing our full write-up and policy paper soon - stay tuned!
